The insulation of campervan, van & Co:
For the insulation of the vehicle side walls, the ceiling and the floor, we recommend, as mentioned, our X-trem insulator. This has the following advantages over other insulation materials such as styrofoam or rock wool:
You can cut X-trem Insulator very well with a sharp knife. This insulation material is flexible and can be easily adapted to the curvature of the vehicle body.
Very high insulation even at low material thicknesses (saves space and weight), is closed-pore (cannot absorb water) and from 15 mm thickness is also flame-resistant.
First cut some pieces of the X-Trem insulator to the desired size. To do this, hold the insulation material against the surface to be insulated and bear in mind that if the surface is difficult to access, the insulation piece and adhesive must be applied later. Please allow for a little leeway! Now coat the cut-to-size X-trem parts with single-component adhesive (for example, art. no. 50036). A wide brush or a fine toothed spatula is best suited for this.
Then apply the adhesive to the side wall or ceiling. Only one brush can be used for this. If you have an air compressor and a spray gun at your disposal, you can also use the 3M adhesive (art. no. 50027) or the one-component adhesive (art. no. 50036) in combination with Terokal Thinner R 1 ltr. No matter which adhesive you choose, both surfaces must be painted! In addition, the bonding must be carried out over a large area so that no air space can form between the vehicle panel and the X-treme insulator. This shifts the dew point into the insulation and thus prevents condensation.
Once the adhesive has been applied, the X-trem is applied after a flash-off period. Here, it is not the duration of the contact pressure that is decisive for the adhesive strength, but the level of the contact pressure. Therefore, press the X-trem insulator correctly at all points. How to proceed with wall and ceiling. You can also use X-trem Insulator material for the floor. In this case, however, the X-trem Insulator is not glued, but only placed under the floor panel.
If you follow this advice, you will have a cooler vehicle in summer and a warmer one in winter. As an exception to this rule, the following applies to the insulation: a lot helps a lot!
