WHICH DOMETIC AWNING FITS MY VEHICLE?
There are Dometic roof or wall awnings, which specific awning is suitable for your vehicle depends on three circumstances.
1. how much space is available in the upper part of the vehicle?
2. what shape are the sides of the vehicle on the way to the roof?
3. are there suitable Dometic adapters (brackets) for your vehicle?
There is a simple rule here:
Curved terminations are suitable for roof mounting. The Perfect Roof 2000 and Perfect Roof 2500 series awnings are suitable for these conditions. Is there space above the door and windows with angular terminations? This is suitable terrain for wall mounting. Here, the Perfect Wall 1100, 1500 and 3800 from Dometic are suitable. For both types of mounting, you need the appropriate Dometic adapters for the vehicle. Of course, when making your purchase decision, you must make the size of your Dometic awning dependent on the length of your vehicle.
Which Dometic awning suits me better?
The automatic awning or the manual awning?
When choosing the awning that suits you best, a lot depends on your personal preference, of course. The mounting options on your vehicle also play a role. Here are the various features at a glance:
Electric awnings, Dometic awnings with motor
Awnings with a motor, such as the Perfect Wall 3800, open with the help of a switch. With the Dometic awnings, this only takes about 35 seconds.
One thing to remember is that they need electricity. This means you need a regular power supply and may be restricted in your freedom to travel, but there are also many ways to be self-sufficient through solar or other energy sources. You can also operate your automatic awning manually in an emergency. However, in order to access the parts required for manual operation, the awning must often be disassembled.
But would you rather do it manually with a Dometic crank awning?
You don't need electricity and nothing stands in the way of a trip to the remotest places. No electricity, no restrictions whatsoever.
Bear in mind: the average roll-out and set-up time for a manual awning is 10 to 12 minutes. Particularly if you change pitches frequently, this amount of time is not acceptable for everyone.
Should it be a Dometic awning with or without support legs?
- Support feet
Available with the manual Dometic awning.
Anchored to the ground in strong winds, these Perfect Wall and Perfect Roof awnings are naturally more robust than the support leg-free version.
Additional support for the Dometic awning is provided by bracing it with the matching bracing sets, the so-called storm straps. These contain elastic straps with which the position of the awning can be additionally secured. - Please note that the various adapters also require a sealant, sealing bead or similar to prevent water from running directly down the vehicle wall.
- It is somewhat difficult for one person to open or stow a manual awning alone. Ideally, two people should work together here!
Without support feet
- Only available as an automatic variant as Perfect Wall 3800.
- Due to the direct mounting on the vehicle, the vehicle must also be able to support the cantilever awning.
- The open construction, with the unsupported fixing rail, is more sensitive to wind.
- The open Perfect Wall 3800 can be additionally secured with the fitted wind sensor and a weather kit with supports and fastening straps.
- This Dometic awning is mounted flush along the entire length of the vehicle. This prevents rainwater from penetrating between the motorised awning and the vehicle wall.
- Easy handling of the Dometic 3800 awning by one person.
Do you want to fit certain accessories? Before buying, please check whether your awning fits them.
Most awning accessories, such as LED lighting, are suitable for all types of Dometic® awnings.
Which awning tent goes with which awning?
There are two different shapes of CampRoom for Perfect Wall and Perfect Roof, but of course we also have other matching awnings in our range
Do you have time to set up your Perfect Wall?
For short stays and quick weather changes, an automatic awning has clear advantages. Thanks to the split-second operation, you are on the safe side here. However, always bear in mind the installation time of the accessories. Such as the My Room, or the storm fastening.
Are you travelling alone, or are you in charge of setting up the awning?
If you want to open your Dometic awning on your own, then the clear purchase recommendation is an automatic awning without support legs. All you need to do is press a button. One-man operation of Dometic awnings with support feet is possible, but is difficult.
How long do you stand in one place, how long is your Dometic awning open?
Of course, the set-up time of an awning is also closely related to the time of use. For example, if you stand on a pitch for 3 weeks, 12 minutes opening time is not too much. However, if you are on holiday in a different place every day, this can quickly become a burden. Perhaps an awning with an automatic system is more compatible with your habits. Think about the cost-benefit factor before buying your Dometic awning. An awning 3800 with motor does not necessarily have anything to do with laziness.
Do you want to be self-sufficient in remote locations?
You don't want civilisation, you want to stand far away at the end of the world and live the dream of freedom? You want to stand freely and independently? Then a manual awning with support legs is exactly what you need. With this awning you don't need an additional power source, the feet are quickly and stably aligned. Enjoy your dream on newly discovered paths.
Reimo Tip:
Please stow all awnings in wind and rain. Awnings are meant to protect you from the sun, not from a storm.
Force of nature wind:
- Cassette awnings with support feet are more stable in windy conditions. A weather kit is a recommended accessory to provide additional stability.
- Automatic awnings without supports are more unstable in strong winds. An included weather kit with support legs and fastening straps will help you secure the open awning.
- Dometic automatic awnings are equipped with a wind sensor as standard. This triggers the awning to close automatically if the fastening rail vibrates too strongly due to wind.
High and low temperatures, rain, frost and sunshine.
- All Dometic awnings have been adequately tested for all eventualities and are reliable between -20 ˚C and 40 ˚C. This means that unless you are planning a long Sahara holiday, or driving through Siberia for 8 weeks in winter, you needn't worry!
- Please note, the variety of adapters for the Dometic awnings with supports, require a rain cover or other sealant to prevent rainwater from entering the side of the vehicle.
- Automatic awnings without support legs are installed flush, here you do not need to consider this problem. Of course, it also comes in handy during rain and storms that the 3800 awning closes in seconds if desired.
- Of course, if a storm is coming, you should always pack up as quickly as possible and seek shelter inside the vehicle. In less than a minute you are dry with the Perfect Wall 3800 automatic awning.
