Solar power system for boats, marine solar modules, the structure
The installation of a solar system on a boat is not much different from that on a motorhome or caravan. But the space on the boat is very limited. Also to be considered is the partial shading by the rigging and the sail. However, the Sunpower solar cells used in the seawater-resistant Carbest Marine modules always get the best out of the conditions. They have an extremely high degree of efficiency and produce a good amount of electricity even when the sun is only partially shining. To prevent possible energy shortages, it makes sense to connect several solar modules for the boat. With the same open-circuit voltage and the right MPPT charge controller, this is no problem, as long as your solar system and the on-board power supply are adapted to the higher current flow. However, the on-board power supply is normally so well dimensioned that there should not be any bottlenecks.
What kind of seawater-resistant solar panel do I need?
Seawaterproof solar panels come in rigid or flexible versions. If you are more the leisurely type and drive a houseboat or a nice cabin cruiser, then an old-fashioned, rigid, 12V solar panel is probably more than sufficient as a marine solar panel. Use the unused space on the cabin roof or hardtop! The rigid modules for boats can be mounted on straight surfaces with small brackets. With sufficient rear ventilation, the seawater-resistant modules produce long-lasting and even electricity. However, rigid marine solar panels mounted in this way cannot be walked on. Often, the rigid solar panels are also mounted on the railing so that they can swivel. Equipped with supports, the solar panel for boats can be manually adjusted and folded in the direction of the sun. The solar panels for boats are ideal for conserving cargo when wintering motor boats. If your boat lies unused and without a shore connection in the harbour for approx. 3 months in winter, a solar module boat provides the maintenance voltage. With a marine solar system, you no longer need to disconnect the on-board batteries for winter storage outdoors. The existing creeping voltage of the silent consumers is cancelled out by the energy produced by the marine solar cells (with a well-dimensioned wattage). If your boat is stored indoors, the only option is to disconnect the battery; unfortunately, the solar system cannot support you here.
Marine solar module, seawater-resistant walkable solar cells for sailing yacht and boat bonding
The well known marine solar panels, the seawater resistant, flexible and walkable solar panels for sailing yacht and boat. The marine solar panels are bonded. This means that even rounded surfaces, such as on a sailing boat, can be easily equipped with flexible marine panels. The flexible solar panels for boats can be walked on when fully bonded, which immensely expands the selection of potential installation surfaces. The "ribbed" surface of the walk-on solar panels for boats ensures a secure footing, even in stormy weather.
The solar system sailboat - more independence in the lonely bathing bay
The solar system sailboat is an important support for carefree days in a lonely bathing bay. Sailboats are usually equipped with a wind generator, and the running engine also provides for charging the batteries. But firmly anchored in a beautiful bathing bay, the energy reserves are quickly depleted and the next shore connection is far away. Electricity is needed for the navigation system alone.
With a solar sailboat system you can create a little independence!
Reimo professional tip:
Make sure the edges of your marine solar panel are well bonded so that the waves have no surface to attack. A non-flat bond can lead to problems and failures of your solar system boats due to detaching edges. For a stable edge on the solar module marine, we recommend using an aluminium end profile towards the bow. This protects the edge and thus the bonding of your marine panel from heavy waves.
