Solar charge controller MPP 170 CI
MPP solar controller for high quality motorhomes, caravans and boats. Votronic solar controllers of the series "MPP" (Maximum-Power-Point) with "IU1oU2" charging characteristic are connected as a link between solar panel(s) and battery(s). With MPP technology, the controller continuously and automatically determines the maximum power point (MPP) of the solar panels several times per second. It then transforms the excess voltage of the solar module to a higher charging current for the battery (realized by high frequency switching controller technology with high efficiency). This charging current gain ensures shorter charging times and the best possible power utilization of the solar system. The MPP solar controllers operate fully automatically, are maintenance-free and offer the following functions:
- MPP charging current increase compared to conventional controllers by using the latest controller technology (microprocessor) by 10% to 30% (efficiency > 95%). The performance plus shows in particular to the cooler season and e.g. in high snow, lower and diffuse lighting (wintering).
- For charging lead-gel, lead-AGM, lead-acid batteries or LiFePO4 complete batteries (with integrated BMS, balancing, safety circuit and approval!) of the specified nominal voltages and the co-supply of consumers connected to these batteries in permanently installed systems with the specified battery capacities and charging programs.
- The charging voltage is free of peaks and regulated so that overcharging of the batteries is excluded.
- Two battery charging outputs: Automatic charging of the main supply on-board battery (BORD I) and support charging and charge maintenance (max. 1 A) of the vehicle starter battery (Start II) with protection against overcharging.
- Monitoring-free charging: Standard protection against overload, overheating, reverse polarity and battery back discharge (in case of too low solar power e.g. twilight, at night, etc.).
- Parallel / buffer operation: Compliance with the charging regulations even with simultaneous operation of consumers.
- Overcharge protection: Regulates the charging current of the battery with too much solar power and full battery back, provides for power consumption by immediate recharging for the highest possible state of charge of the battery.
- "IU1oU2" charging characteristic: Defined charging voltage increase (U1) prevents harmful acid stratification (lead) and provides for equalization charging of the individual battery cells (lead and lith.), then automatic trickle charge (U2).
- Charge cable compensation: Voltage losses on the charging cables are automatically compensated.
- Bordnetzfilter: Problem-free parallel operation with wind and motor generators, mains chargers, alternators, etc..
- CI-Bus connection: to display all relevant data on a central vehicle display
- Measurement output for EBL, possibly existing electrical block in the living area of the vehicle: Allows the convenient use of a built-in (solar) current display in the electrical block to control the solar system.

- Switching output "AES" (only MPP 260 CI, MPP 360 CI and MPP 440 CI): Causes the automatic switching of refrigerators with "AES" (Automatic Energy Selector, Electrolux / Dometic) from gas to 12 V operation when permanently abundant solar power surplus.
- Connection for battery temperature sensor: For lead-acid batteries, the automatic adjustment of the charging voltage to the battery temperature, causes a better full charge of the weaker battery in cold weather, in summer temperatures, unnecessary battery gassing and load is avoided.
- LiFePO4 batteries: Battery protection at high and especially at low temperatures.Absolutely recommended if the battery temperature can fall below 0 ° C during operation.
